SilverFast software for scanners recommended by Nicholas Hellmuth, FLAAR.

Today there is a new version 6 of Silver Fast, from LaserSoft Imaging. With German efficiency they have produced a scanner software that offers pros all the bells and whistles yet provides beginners with all the tender care to get them started.

SilverFast scanning software

Silver Fast has software for all the major scanners, from entry-level into desktop publishing and into the higher end as well. Most professional scanner software may cost as much as the original scanner hardware! But today these prices have come way down even as more features are added. Check it out, LaserSoft-Imaging.com.

Silver Fast is available for Epson, Umax, Microtek, Agfa, Polaroid, Nikon and other entry level scanners as well as scanners from Howtek and Cruse. Silver Fast was the scanner software of choice for the Leica S1 scanning camera as well. If I remember correctly SilverFast is also the scanner software for the Seitz digital panoramic cameras.

SilverFast comes in Ai (Artificial Intelligence) professional version, SilverFast SE (lite version), SilverFast DC (digital camera software), and SilverFast HDR (to edit 16-hit RAW files).

Imaging Software after you do your scanning

Auto F/X Corporation now offers AutoEye software that might be worth experimenting with if you are not a whiz at handling more complex programs. Although it is still better to face reality and learn Adobe Photoshop, you can try AutoEye to see if it can help you in the initial stages of getting used to the differences between the original film and the digitized result of scanning or a digital camera.

Actually, with the new generation of scanner software, you should be able to improve your scanning directly at the source, namely as your image is being digitized the first time on the scanner. Previously the main choice for heavy duty industrial strength scanner software was that by Heidelberg, their LinoColor Elite. This is their special professional scanner software that makes the difference between a Linotype-Hell scanner and those from Umax or Microtek.
