GAFT books on color management.

Books on color management are easier to find today. Five years ago when we started these web sites hardly any good titles were available. FLAAR now offers help on color management for digital photography and for wide format inkjet printing in our course offered on the internet (so you can take the course any time, anywhere in the world).

Digital Color Management

Another from Agfa.. Published in 1997, written by E. Giorgianni and T. Madden. '97 means it was written in '96, so a bit dated, but until something newer comes along, try it. Hard to find either new or used but the illustrations are worth it.

The Color Guide and Glossary

Nicely printed 49 page booklet available from X-Rite

Obviously today (2004) you don't want a book on color management published in the 1990's. So we have completely updated our "List of Recommended Reading" with the newest titles from 2004, as well as titles from 2003 that are still pertinent. You can acquire this list in the FLAAR Report series on color management.

This software manual from Pictographics is a veritable tome on the basic principles of color management in general. Color management companies nowadays realize that their software needs to be understandable for people from other backgrounds (such as professional photographers, artists, and people who do not have an advanced degree in color from MIT or RIT).

This "User Guide" thus covers color profiles, gamuts, color spaces, CIE Lab, color measuring instruments, creating display profiles, creating scanner profiles, creating digital camera profiles, creating output profiles, and more than there is space here to relate.

In the section on color measuring instruments, the ones listed are what you would expect for a professional prepress shop, namely Gretag Spectrolino and others, Color Savvy ColorMouseToo, and the various X-Rite instruments including their Spectrophotometer and Colorimeter.

For more on these products, we are starting to review ColorSnergy.
