Any two hard drives + one software = your own personal RAID system. Two drives are combined via software to move the data faster than a single drive alone (joint speed of two drives simultaneously). If you prefer a hardware RAID with hot swappible disks, you can get that from ProDirect, pdisales.com. If you work at an advertising agency, graphics design studio, prepress or service bureau, you probably already have a RAID system.
A repro or copy shop can archive all kinds of projects on a RAID system. Data warehousing enterprises have used RAID for backup for several years, but a RAID system can also help a small office or home office. For desktop publishing a RAID system can help you move files more quickly. Here is an entry level RAID. You can configure this yourself, or have tech support from ProDirect hold your hand while you click the mouse on a few answers to the on-screen help. We recommend ProDirect because this is where we have been buying hard drives, CD-R burners, and DVD-RAM for our digital imaging needs. Everything is backed up on CD-R, also on Pinnacle Micro Apex removable drives (which we are replacing with the larger capacity and more widely available DVD-RAM).

Most of our updates for November 2004 onward are in FLAAR Reports in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. It is more efficient for us to make new information available in PDF format. So if the web page itself is not updated, check out www.wide-format-printers.NET to see if the printer, RIP, or other subject is covered in an update in a PDF download. |
